My hope in creating “Shell” was to depict two sides of the Native American experience.
The front face depicts the strength, endurance and resilience of the people.
The reverse side is empty – hollowed out by the cultural changes forced on them, becoming a shell of their previous lives.
The American eagle medallion on the chest is fractured, but the pieces -courage, strength and wisdom – are still there.
